Dr Rolando Bala's Obituary
Rolando Bala, age 68, of San Mateo, passed away Saturday, October 20th, 2018.Rolando, also known as “Dandi” by all those who closely knew him, was born on November 30th 1949 in Manila, Philippines to Romeo and Cornelia Bala.He was a loving husband to Angelita Escalona Bala. They met in Manila and were together for 41 years. He married her on December 31st, 1986 at San Francisco City Hall.He graduated from the University of the Philippines Preparatory High School, and then went on to receive Doctor of Medicine from Far Eastern University Institute of Medicine. He went on to have long career in the medical field and retired in 2015.Dandi loved his family and liked to have fun. He was always jovial and happy to joke and laugh with everyone. Along with his dedication to medicine and science, he had a passion for the arts. He knew how to play piano and guitar. He played in a band in high school, and singing karaoke at home or at family gatherings was a common occurrence. He played basketball in his youth, and enjoyed playing mahjong, card games and board games. He loved watching sports and was and ardent fan of Joe Montana and his San Francisco home teams. Politics and economics were of great interest for Dandi, including his hero, Jose Rizal, a Filipino nationalist and activist. Dandi was a proud Filipino and fittingly shared his birthday with Andres Bonifcaio, also known as “The Father of the The Philippine Revolution”. He had an appreciation for fashion and cars, and was curious of the latest technologies. He enjoyed watching TV, especially TFC and reality competition shows. As someone who loved to learn, he also liked to watch the news, A&E, History Channel and Food Network. During quieter times, he read books, listened to music, napped, doodled and colored.Rolando is remembered by his family, wife Angelita, who loved and cared for him; mother Cornelia Bala, son Roland Bala, daughter Lalaine Bala, sisters Vilma Bala Ongteco and Violeta Bala Gutierrez, and brother Ronaldo Bala.Rolando’s family extends appreciation and thanks to his doctors, nurses and caretakers who helped him throughout his life.
