Robert Holt Schuyler Resident of San Jose Nov. 11, 1945 — May 1, 2019Our dear Rob passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, May 1. Known as a larger than-life person, Rob was born in Oakland, attended local schools, and graduated from San Jose State University. Rob earned his masters degree in psychology and was a licensed marriage and family counselor. He enjoyed a long career as a clinical therapist, creating visionary programs within the Alum Rock School District, Oak Grove School District, and SELPA V. Rob was also a skilled sailor and former commodore of the Santa Cruz Yacht Club, where he was respected for his sailing knowledge as well as his excellent people skills.Rob will be sorely missed by his wife of 47 years Diana (De), daughter Kathryn, son Ryan and wife Janel, grandchildren Shae and Reese, sisters Susan, Kerry, and Laura, his faithful pal Buster, as well as Rob’s Aunt Sherma and many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and colleagues. He was preceded in death by parents Maxine and Ralph and sister Shelley.Rob was enthusiastic about everything he did: sailing, watercolor painting, skiing, watching Shae’s and Reese’s sporting events, taking long walks with Buster, building his outdoor kitchen with Ryan, and cooking (particularly Papa’s Pasta) for his family and friends.A celebration of Rob’s life will be held on Friday, May 10, at Skylawn Memorial Park in San Mateo. Viewing will be from 9:00-11:00am, followed by a funeral and burial service starting at 11:00am. There will be a reception immediately after at Skylawn. Rather than flowers (which the deer will eat), donations may be made in Rob’s name to the Santa Clara County chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) at namisantaclara.org.For SCYC: There will be a celebration of life for Rob on Sunday, May 26, at the Santa Cruz Yacht Club. Further details will be forthcoming. Rather than flowers, donations may be made in Rob’s name to the Legacy Fund of the SCYC or the Santa Cruz Sailing Foundation.Here is the video link.
