Robert E. KrebsJuly 25, 1943 – March 31, 2016Bob Krebs of Hillsborough on Thursday, March 25 died after brief illness brought on by a severe acute sepsis. He was 72 years old.Bob was born in Saginaw, Michigan to Edmund Otto Krebs and Helene Krebs (Trogan). At age 10 he and his parents moved to Colorado. Bob attended the University of Colorado Boulder where he earned an undergraduate degree in engineering and a law degree. Bob held an MBA and Certificate in Telecommunications Engineering (with distinction) from the University of California Berkeley, a Master’s in Environmental Engineering from San Jose State University, and a Master’s in Electrical Engineering from Santa Clara University.Bob married Mary Barbara Ballard on November 26, 1983 in Berkeley California. They have two children, John of Boulder, Colorado, and Paul of San Francisco, California.Bob practiced corporate and private practice intellectual property law for over forty-five years and was an active partner at Nixon Peabody at the time of his death. He served on the advisory board at the School of Engineering at the University of Colorado and was instrumental in creating the Nixon Peabody Patents for Humanity Foundation. Over his professional career he served as an advisor to corporations and numerous start-up companies, most recently Innit International.Bob was an avid instrument-rated pilot and, along with Barbara, they flew extensively throughout the Western United States. A life-long student, Bob delighted in learning French and reading French literature. He also enjoyed alpine skiing, water skiing, tennis, and hiking.Bob was a faithful friend and a legendary role model for his family. He led an active, engaged life up to his final days. The family expresses their gratitude to the doctors and staff at Peninsula Hospital for their outstanding professionalism and compassion. Bob is survived by his wife, Barbara, sons John and Paul, and daughter-in-law Kate. A grandson is expected in May. A celebration of Bob’s life is planned.
