Robert Huerta's Obituary
Robert (Bob) Huerta.
He was 93 when he died peacefully in his sleep on the evening of Thursday, October 13, 2022.
Bob was born on March 15, 1929, at the Women's Hospital in Pasadena, California. He was the fifth of eight children to Guadalupe and Luz Cortez Huerta. He attended Pasadena Public Schools, and with his Mom's permission, he enlisted in the United States Navy at the age 17 in 1946.
While on Shore Patrol for the U.S. Navy, he met, courted and married the love of his life, Catalina (Kati). They renewed their vows in 1963 by the Catholic Church in Pasadena then made their forever home in San Francisco, California.
He enjoyed photography, making small knick-knacks for people to enjoy. His outgoing personality and gift of gab created large circles of friends and acquaintances throughout his life.
Bob and Kati filled their lives by volunteering and contributing to their beloved Mission Dolores Basilica. Together they were founding members of “The Sociedad Guadalupana”. He enjoyed volunteering as a docent at The Old Mission. Upon retiring from the military, Bob continued his love of cooking at Mission Dolores preparing meals for the Priests and staff.
He was also a proud member for 65 years of the Knights of Columbus Chapter 615 - 4th Degree.
He is survived by his wife, Kati, and children: Roberto, Eva-(Ronald Simi), Rosa and Jackie-(Sean Daly).
Grandchildren: Ivette-(Mauricio Roca), Robert Carlos (RC), Richard (Ricky)-(Nicca), Ryan and Alex Huerta; Vincent-(Shanae Simi) and Kimberly Simi; Brianna-(Stephen Saltamachia), and Brendan Daly.
Great-grandchildren: Antonio and Andres Roca; Jhaydine, Chelsey, Gabriella and Richard Jr. (Ricky) Huerta; Sean and Eamon Saltamachia; and Raegan Simi.
And Pedro the Parrot!
His siblings preceded him in death: Terry Lugo, Salvador Huerta, Alice Sendejas, Alfred Huerta, Adolf Huerta, Josefina (Joey) Huerta and Mary Alegria.
All four brothers proudly served in the U.S. Navy. Two were Pharma Mates (medical), and one was a Photographer and Bob chose Food Service.
During the course of his enlistment, Bob visited the North and South Poles and crossed the Equator numerous times and he served on eight ships.
Bob was incredibly proud to have served in the U. S. Navy, completing the Navy Culinary Course. He retired from active duty in 1966 and continued into the Fleet Reserve, at the Naval Shipyard, and then the VA Hospital in San Francisco. He retired from the military on January 1, 1976 - active/reserve duty, totaling thirty years!
Rosary & Funeral service are scheduled for 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 24th at Mission Dolores Basilica, 3321 16th St., San Francisco, CA 94114. Immediately following the services there will be a procession to Skylawn Memorial Park, Hwy 92 and Skyline Blvd., in San Mateo, CA.
