Mr. Rob Thomas Kageyama's Obituary
Rob Thomas Kageyama, age 51, passed away unexpectedly on December 4, 2022
after suffering a massive stroke. The family is both devastated and shocked by his
death. Rob is survived by his wife of 19 years, Amy; his son and daughter, Kenji and
Kendall; his dog, Remy; his guinea pig, Kalua; his mother, Naomi; his sister, Shawna;
his nephew and niece, Nolan and Nicole; and his brother from another mother, Kenny
Watanabe. He is preceded in death by his father, Ken.
Rob was born on May 4, 1971, in Oakland, California. After graduating from Skyline
High School where he played lacrosse, he went to culinary school to pursue a career in
the restaurant business. He soon discovered that was not the path he wanted to follow
and then went to Cal State Hayward where he graduated with a degree in marketing.
Out of college Rob worked at Franklin Templeton and then Bay Meadows before
switching careers to do IT work for Carol H. Williams. Most recently he did IT work for
Grow Marketing and Mekanism.
Rob had a big personality, a witty sense of humor. and didn’t hesitate to tell you what he
thought, good or bad. He enjoyed playing golf, bowling, and playing poker. Rob was the
chef of the family, always trying new recipes and sharing his love of cooking with
Kendall. He also loved traveling because he could try new foods and new restaurants.
His favorite destinations were Las Vegas and Hawaii. Rob was a lifelong Warriors fan
and more recently a fan of Kenji and Kendall’s basketball teams. Last year he finally
convinced Amy to let him rescue a puppy and Remy became the center of his life. He
might have loved Remy more than he did his family.
The Kageyama family will be holding a celebration of life at Skylawn Funeral Home in
San Mateo on December 20 at 12:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests
donations be made to the American Stroke Association, a division of the American
Heart Association (https://www.stroke.org/en/). They further request that you then have
a bloody mary or a glass of champagne in his honor. Rob will be greatly missed by the
many lives he touched.
