Rita J. Marko's Obituary
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Rita J. Marko on April 28, 2023.
Rita Jean Marko
August 8, 1920 — April 28, 2023
Rita Marko lived a full life and passed away at the young age of 102. She was born and raised in Pittsburg, PA., and was a devoted Catholic.
After marrying her husband, Anthony Marko, in 1941, she moved to California. Rita was a long-time resident of San Mateo and worked as a machinist for Varian Associates, an electrical firm for many years.
In retirement, Rita enjoyed volunteering in the hospital nursery ward, making lunches for the unhoused, gardening, traveling, watching the SF Giants, and spoiling her grandchildren. She loved adventures to Apple Hill, playing Wii bowling, watching Dancing with the Stars, and Bingo, playing the slots and telling jokes.
Everyone who knew her loved her. She will be remembered for her warmth, kindness, generosity, and wise-cracking humor. Her love and light will live within all of us.
She is survived by sisters Virginia Rivers of Butler, PA, and Emma Brown of Marysville, CA. Son, Tony (Sheila) Marko, granddaughter Kelly Marko, daughter Barbara (Matt) Stretch, granddaughters Sarah (Joe) Emerson, Heather (Jon) Coniglio, Gwen (Delano) Holdren, Abby (Matt) Case, and her seven great-grandchildren (two on the way). In addition, many much-loved extended family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Anthony (Tony) Marko, and siblings Edward Kaczor, Ted Kaczor, Emily Klemzak, and Eileen Moffitt.
