Raymon (Ray) R. Kliewer's Obituary
Raymon (Ray) R. Kliewer “Handsome Ray” 1926 – 2014Ray passed away on Friday, March 28 at his winter residence in the Coachella Valley. He had a long battle with heart and lung disease which he fought with his usual tenacity. He was born in McPherson County, KS and moved to Calif. in 1949. Ray was a long time resident of San Carlos and Foster City.He was a 47 year member of the Burlingame Lions Club. He became their president in 1973 and the District Governor in ’87-’88. He whole heartily supported women being integrated in to Lionism and at the International Convention during his term the rule passed that women should be allowed to be come members. Of course, there was a lot of grumbling that it was no longer a “Men’s Only” club among District members because they might have to keep the cussing and drinking to a minimum.Ray’s leadership in the Lion’s of Burlingame and at the District & International level has been prolific with to many awards to mention. But, for his years of dedication in service to his club, his community and those less fortunate in the world, Ray was awarded the highest honor bestowed by Lion’s International the “Ambassador Good Will” medal. Ray was truly a “Man of Service” and left his mark, leaving us with a better world through his words, his deeds, his ideals and his actions. A honorable and revered man, he will be greatly missed.Ray owned All-Car Body & Paint & British Motor Cars in Burlingame. He traded in cars for commercial real estate and was involved up to his passing away. Also, his connection with the Burlingame community resulted in leading the Chamber of Commerce for a few years. He traveled far and wide leading to collection of 500 small lion figurines. He was a big fan of John Wayne and had an extensive collection of his western movies. And, of course, he loved football and especially the 49’ers.Ray’s love and support will be greatly missed by his wife, Marsha; his son, Randall (Jan); his daughter Mistelle: his grandchildren, Arielle (Jeff); Juilette (Dave); Steven; and 3 great grandchildren. Brother-in-law Harvey (Georgia) and several nieces and nephews; former wife, Joanne Kliewer.Memorial Services honoring Ray’s life will be held at Skylawn Funeral Home and Memorial Park, Highway 92 at Skyline Blvd., San Mateo, CA on Monday, April 7, 2014.Viewing will be held from 12:30pm to 1:00pm followed by services at 1:00pm.
