Celebrating the Life of Raquel Isabel HoriuchiRaquel was born on August 21 1943 in San Francisco, where she lived until her early mid 20’s. She was the 3rd of 3 children to parents Fidel Francisco Rodriguez and Candelaria Solis Rodriguez.She earned her high school diploma from St. Vincent’s High School in San Francisco. After graduation, she began a career as a bookkeeper at Bank of Tokyo in San Francisco for four years, after which she became a homemaker. She was married to Kiyomi Horiuchi on October 23, 1965 in San Francisco. Though born and raised in San Francisco, Raquel lived most her adult life in San Jose, CA. She spent over 10 years working at BrookTree elementary school as a yard duty.Raquel loved her family and friends. A proud grandmother and mom, she considered the births of her sons and grandchildren as the most important moments of her life. She always enjoyed the company of special friends, Cindy Mireles, Maria Cortez, and Pat Valverde and Herdnesene Garrett. Cherished pastimes included watching her favorite shows, and gossiping with her friends…daily. A lover music, she especially enjoyed the tunes of Hall and Oates, Gloria Estefan, Celine Dion, Elvis, and oldies but goodies and most recently Taylor Swift and Lady Antebellum. Songs like “One summer night” by the Danleers, “Earth Angel” by The Penguins, and “Tears on my Pillow” by Little Anthony and the Imperials were some of her favorites.Raquel is survived by her husband Kiyomi Horiuchi, sons Mark of Valencia, CA and Kevin of San Jose, CA, grandchildren Andrew Laporte, Natalie Horiuchi and Danielle Fox of San Jose, CA, and Kayla Horiuchi of Valencia, CA.Services in her honor will be held at Skylawn Funeral Home in San Mateo. The services will be celebratory of her life; Raquel would have wanted everyone to have a good time.
