Randall Gale's Obituary
Dr. Randall C. Gale, 42, of Redwood City, CA, passed away peacefully on September 1, 2018, with his devoted partner of 20 years, Mike, at his side. Randy was surrounded by loving family and friends who stood by him as he battled brain cancer with the same tenacity with which he lived his life.Randy, born in Los Angeles, CA, on November 11, 1975, was known for his intellectual curiosity and believed that education was never-ending. After graduating from St. Mary High School in Medford, OR, he attended the University of Oregon, where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in biology in 1998. He continued with his education and earned a bachelor’s degree in medical technology from Portland State University in 1999. He went on to earn a master’s degree in public health with a focus in health administration and policy from Portland State University in 2004. In 2015, Randy received his Doctorate degree in public health from the George Washington University.Randy dedicated much of his life to serve others. Over the course of 14 years, Randy held various positions within the federal government, working tirelessly to develop and advance programs to improve quality of care and patient experience, especially for those with cancer and those receiving end-of-life care. Randy’s professional career started at The Department of Health and Human Services, where he served as an analyst and team lead for the National Cord Blood Inventory Program. Most recently, Randy served as a health services researcher at the Center for Innovation to Implementation at the VA Palo Alto Healthcare System. Randy’s friends and colleagues will remember him for his dedication, thoughtfulness, caring nature, and eager willingness to help anyone in need.Randy enjoyed photography, running, tennis, travel, baking and his favorite team, the Oregon Ducks. He especially loved going on new adventures with his partner Mike and their two Chihuahuas. After meeting on Valentine’s Day 1999 in Portland, Randy and Mike spent the next twenty years chasing adventure and new experiences. Randy and Mike traveled the world and particularly enjoyed working together to design and renovate homes. Mike will always cherish Randy’s generous heart and amazing smile. Even after he was diagnosed with a rare type of brain cancer, Randy never complained and lived life to the fullest everyday. He set an amazing example for all of us to follow.Randy considered family to be the most important part of his life. He is survived by his partner, Mike Garvey, and their two Chihuahuas, Tony and Corduroy; parents Ray and Karen Gale of Medford, OR; brothers Jeff (Kelly) Gale of Seattle, WA, and Steve (Kristina) Gale of Roseburg, OR; sisters Suzanne (Matthias) Graf of Springfield, OR, and Jeanette (Ken) Bowles of Modesto, CA; five nephews; one niece; and many aunts, uncles and cousins, along with countless people he has touched throughout his life. He will be greatly missed.There will be a Celebration of Life on Saturday, September 29, 2018, 10:00 a.m. at Skylawn Memorial Park, Hwy 92 and Skyline Blvd, San Mateo, CA.
