Purificacion Torres' Obituary
Purificacion Lazatin Torres, known to many as 'Mama Torres', died on 4/24/2012 in her home at the age of 76 due to natural causes. She was born on May 15, 1935 in Pampanga, Philippines to mother Pacita Santos and Manuel Lazatin. She graduated with a Masters in Clinical Psychology at the University of Santo Tomas, Manila, Philippines. She used her degree as a professor at the University, and also taught students throughout the provinces in the Philippines. She has always mentioned that the time she spent in the impoverished cities was the best times in her life. Purificacion later moved to the United States where she met, and married the love of her life, Joseph Torres. She worked for 21 years at the San Diego Job Corps as an instructor, peer trainer, and mentor to many disadvantaged youth. Her favorite thing in the world was to cook and bake for family and friends. She also enjoyed gardening, traveling, and spending time with her family. Purificacion had an outstanding, joyous, and kind heart. She had the ability to light up the room with her smile, and always won over anyone she met with her sweet personality. She is survived by 4 children: Rosario Briones, Arleen Villanueva, Heidi Alcantara, and JoAnn Torres. She is a Grandmother to 8 children: Rudy Villanueva, Rachel Villanueva, Jordan Briones, Kyrah Briones, Christian Briones, Alyssa Alcantara-Urrea, Quiozel Alcantara, and Chantel Alcantara. She is a Great-Grandmother to 2 children: Nicholas Urrea, and Oscar Urrea.Funeral Services will be held at Skylawn Memorial Park, San Mateo on 5/1/2012 at 10 am.
