Ponder L. Phillips' Obituary
Ponder L. Phillips of San Mateo, passed away at Mills Peninsula hospital on Sunday, July 3, 2016 surrounded by his family. He was born November 23, 1932 to Liz and Lloyd Phillips in Swifton, Arkansas.During his early years, his family moved to Tucson, Arizona. Following high school, Ponder enlisted in the United States Air Force and served in North Africa during the Korean War. Upon returning stateside, he met his wife of 60 years, Barbara Sue Padden, while stationed at Westover Air Force Base in Massachusetts. They moved to Tucson, Arizona where Ponder attended the University of Arizona, graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and a Master’s degree in Business Education. After college, the family moved to the San Francisco Bay Area where Ponder worked for the Southern Pacific Railroad for thirty-eight years before retiring.Those who will miss Ponder most are his daughter Candace and husband Morgan Clark, his son Chris and wife Kerry, his daughter Liane and husband Robert Jenkins, his son Michael and wife Jennifer, his son Mark and wife Jennifer and his nine grandchildren, Lauren, Kristen, Adam, Aaron, Jordan, Grace, Logan, Lyle and Bo. He will also be missed by his sisters, Bonnie Reece, Billy Jean Walker, Audrey Thomas, Betsy Pirrone and her husband Stephen, many nieces, nephews and close family friends.A memorial mass will be held at St. Gregory’s Catholic Church in San Mateo at 10:30am on Friday, July 15, 2016.
