Pilar Lopez's Obituary
Mom was born at Stanford Lane Hospital on May 16, 1925 as one of two children. She also had a brother, Frank. She was raised on Mason St. ,next door to her life long best friend Lily Mori, who proceeded her in 2008.She had fond memories of roller skating all over North Beach, Top of the Mark,riding cable cars and just growing up in the international settlement it was.She loved to go buy grapes with her father so he could make his wine.She walked across the Golden gate bridge on the opening day,her and Lil watched Joe DiMagio’s first wedding(not Marilyn)at St. Peters and Paul. She graduated from Presentation”42″,celebrated V.Day with the girls at Glidden Paints were she worked.She also worked for the Ship fitters Union during the war.In 1947 ,she married Manuel V. Lopez, the love of life(or poor refugee Gitano)from Spain at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church on Broadway.Being the daughter of Spanish immagrants herself, it was a perfect match.Mom and Dad raised three sons in the Sunset(Lowell grads).In 1967, she and Dad packed the whole house and moved to Candas,Asturias,Spain,Dad’s home town with son David(too much summer of love’67).The move did not work out for whatever reason:They went back to the same Sunset house by June of ’68.She got her job back at Epinger Hart Insurance and was very grateful about that and her friends the Hart’s and Harry Spatz. She later worked many years for the S.F.U.S.D,(Yerba Buena Elem. and District Office),retiring in 1986.Her and Dad enjoyed their retirement, spending time at the country house in Felto, with friends and family,and the dogs..Jazz, Jada Vanessa and Isabella.Mom lived a full adventuris life.
