Phillip Morton Lev's Obituary
Phillip Morton Lev
August 26, 1938 - March 27, 2023
Phillip (Phil) Lev, a man of many passions and accomplishments, passed away at his home on March 27, 2023, surrounded by loved ones. He was 84 years old. Phil found solace in his library, surrounded by stacks of books, family pictures, and photo albums, which brought him joy and comfort during his last days.
Born and raised in Chicago, Phil attended the University of Wisconsin, where he earned both his undergraduate and law degrees. Following law school, he enlisted in the Army and served as a Military Police Officer at Fort Ord in Monterey County, California, eventually becoming a Captain in the Army Reserves.
After leaving the military, Phil worked briefly for the IRS as an Auditing Agent in the Estate and Gift Tax Division before establishing his own Estate and Probate Law practice in San Mateo for over 50 years. He was also a dedicated educator and mentor, teaching Estate & Gift Tax classes at Golden Gate University for several years.
Despite his many professional achievements, Phil was happiest when spending time with his family. He loved reading, fishing, photography, and playing golf, but his eyes lit up the most when the family was together, especially during weekend breakfasts at Brothers, and our annual Chanukah dinners at the Peninsula Golf and Country Club.
Phil lived with Multiple Sclerosis for over 40 years, but he never let the disease define him. He faced every challenge with grace and courage, never once complaining or giving in to the illness. Phil will be remembered fondly by his family and friends, who loved him dearly and will miss him greatly.
