Philip Chew's Obituary
Philip Chew passed away at home surrounded by his family on August 24, 2017, fighting a five-year battle with pancreatic cancer. During the last years he fought hard by learning about the disease, possible treatment options and talking to many specialists. He had the determination to survive not only for himself but more importantly to continue to support and care for his wife and children.He attended St Mary’s School, Sacred Heart Cathedral Prep, and graduated from UC Berkeley Haas School of Business. He later continued on to earn his MBA from Golden Gate University. He worked as a finance manager at Bechtel, American President Lines and Visa.Philip traveled extensively with his family and friends to Europe, Asia, and different areas within the United States. As a person constantly interested in new cuisines, he enjoyed local restaurants and eateries his destination had to offer. His natural interest in art and history influenced him to visit a plethora of museums in Europe; including London, Madrid, Paris, Tokyo, and Rome. From his travels, it gave him pleasure to purchase gifts to bring back home to his friends.Being an individual mindful of nature and the environment which surrounded him, Philip always appreciated hiking and exploring with his family. From the love for the ocean he enjoyed spending time exploring the beaches along Half Moon Bay and the California coast. Lastly, Philips appreciation for life and nature showed in the tending of his garden. At the later part of his life Philip enjoyed cooking as it brought him closer to his culture and family.Philip was a man who strived to live life to the fullest with his family and friends. He took pride in his famous margaritas which he served at parties. He looked forward and cherished all the gatherings with friends.Near the end of his life, he told us that change is constant and to not be afraid of change.Philip is survived by his beloved wife Jeannie, his children Eric and Megan and dog Lucky.Funeral services will be held on Wednesday August 30th at 11:00am at Skylawn Memorial Park San Mateo.In lieu of flowers, please make donations to a charity of your choice.
