Philip Anthony Bank's Obituary
Philip Anthony Bank, aged 70, of Woodside passed away peacefully at his home on the 26th of October in 2018 at 5:11pm surrounded by family and friends. He was born July 10, 1948 in San Mateo, to Walter and Irene Bank. Phil was raised in the Bay Area and lived here his entire life. He loved it here and saw no reason to be anywhere else. In his early years, he attended St. Matthew’s Elementary School and St. Pius Elementary School where he frequented the Catholic Church with his family. He attended Bellarmine College Preparatory where he played football throughout his high school career, including during their 1965 undefeated season. Phil earned his bachelor’s degree at the University of California Berkeley and then went on to achieve his master’s degree in Business at Santa Clara University. After college, he worked side by side with his father at the family glass business in San Carlos. He went on to fully own and operate WJ Bank Glass Company for many years. After years of developing their one of a kind love story, Phil married the love of his life, Jill Marie Small, on the 26th of May in 1990.Although Phil had always lived in the suburbs, his wife and he shared a strong love of the beach. Their many romantic getaways almost always involved the beach, with Phil making point to declare their love written in the sand each time. Later in life, they enjoyed taking their children with them to the beach or having the constant sound of Hawaiian music playing in the background of their home. He could usually be found in his favorite chair, reading a book or the newspaper. On the weekends, Phil was most likely cheering for his favorite bay area sports teams on TV or tirelessly trekking to the many sporting activities of his own children and, more recently, his grandchildren.Family was always the top priority for Phil and he loved them endlessly. He inspired his family, friends, and everyone he met with his patience, strength, courage, compassion, and easygoing attitude. Phil blessed his family with his fighting spirit and his optimism throughout his 9-year fight with cancer. He never gave up and never lost hope.Phil was a loving husband, dedicated father, generous brother, loyal friend, compassionate grandfather, and intelligent man. He is survived by his wife Jill, his brother Walter, his sister Flora, his daughters Jennifer (Larry) and Cassandra (Bradley), his son Thomas, his grandson Tyler, his granddaughter Kate, and his best friend Charles.A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, November 3rd at 11:00 AM at the Church of the Nativity in Menlo Park. A reception will follow the service at the Bank residence in Woodside until 2:30 PM. Phil’s internment will be at Skylawn Funeral Home and Memorial Park in San Mateo at 3:00 PM.The family asks that you spend time with your children, take a walk on the beach with your loved ones, and make a toast to enduring friendships lifelong and beyond. That is what Phil would wish for you.
