I have known Peter for the past decade+ mainly through AA meetings. Pete was a regular at the Sunday Morning HMB 9AM meeting at the Senior Center, also regularly attended the Monday through Friday noon Meetings at Mariners Church, and Monday and Wednesday meetings at Community United Methodist: he gave service for different positions in each of those meetings.
I considered Pete a close personal friend and knew of many of his personal contributions to various people in need, always without any public acknowledgement of his generosity. He took me up to Skylawn Memorial Park where he had purchased a grave site for Sarah his close young friend and one for himself right next to her. He donated his home to a close neighbor and his car to a friend. He helped many people both with money and other things never expecting anything in return but would say pay-it-forward.
Pete was proud of his service in the Marines and especially his recovery in AA, both from drugs and alcohol. He used to tell me stories of some of his exploits in the drug world usually wth humor and insights about the affect on him physically and emotionally. He often shared at meetings the changes that AA had made in his life.
Pete was very fond of steak and he and I would meet every quarter or so at Mezza Luna restaurant to enjoy their beef steak. Pete would tell me stories of his days in SF and we would swap stories of other things.
I can’t think of a more loving, kind and generous soul than Pete. He wil be missed and thought of often. I plan on visiting his and Sarah’s grave site soon.
