Peter Wu Lam's Obituary
Peter Wu Lam passed away peacefully on December 22, 2023. He was surrounded by his cherished family in San Jose, California during his final moments.
Peter’s life exemplified the very essence of resilience and perseverance. Born of Chinese descent and raised in Vietnam, he built and managed a thriving construction supplies business for over two decades. Alongside his beloved wife, Ann, Peter was a devoted father to their four children – Todd, Lee, Brandon, and Steven.
In the tumultuous aftermath of the Vietnam War, when uncertainty loomed over the welfare of all citizens, Peter, as the patriarch, made the agonizing decision to relinquish his life’s work and leave Vietnam in the hope of securing a brighter future for his young family. Following a long and arduous journey, and with the help and generosities of others, Peter and his family eventually settled in San Jose to begin their new lives. Faced with daunting challenges of adapting to a new culture, language, and environment, Peter resolutely persevered, driven by his unwavering commitment to provide for his family. His quiet selflessness echoed resoundingly during those initial years in San Jose, where he willingly undertook humble jobs and toiled tirelessly without complaint, understanding that every sacrifice was a step towards a noble goal: securing a brighter future for his loved ones. Through an immeasurable amount of hard work and dedication, Peter, alongside Ann, rebuilt a promising future for their children.
Peter led his life with honesty and compassion, evident through his actions. Once, he waited patiently for over two hours at a bus stop for a woman to return for her lost purse containing several hundred dollars. On another occasion, he defied the restaurant owner’s objections, purchasing meals for a homeless child and his siblings to dine together, demonstrating his compassion for those in need. These instances are just a glimpse into the myriad examples that illustrate Peter’s altruistic nature.
At the time of his passing, Peter could proudly declare that all four children were leading fruitful and fulfilling lives, a testament to his unwavering resilience and perseverance. His lasting legacy will live on in the collective heart of his family.
Peter is survived by his beloved wife, Ann; his children – Todd, Lee, Brandon, and Steven; his grandchildren – Megan, Beatricia, Beverley, and Emma; his sisters – Hia Ngo and Xieu Ky Ngo; and his brothers – Lee Ngo and Minh Chanh Ngo. Peter was predeceased by his brothers Kim Xe Ngo and Bi Chau Ngo.
Private services to honor his life will be held at Skylawn Memorial Park in San Mateo, California on January 3, 2024.
