Perla R. Contreras' Obituary
Perla Rueda Contreras, aged 78, of Fremont, CA died at Kaiser in Sacramento at approximately 2:00 am on Christmas, December 25, 2014.She was born in Nueva Ecija, Philippines, to Mariano and Amalia Rueda. She was predeceased by 3 older sisters, Zeny, Nelly and Flor and one younger brother, Marcos. She attended and graduated from Mapua Institute of Technology in the Philippines. She met her husband, Celestino Ramos Contreras at one of her earliest jobs at the Department of Public Works and Highways in Malolos. They were wed in 1960 and had two daughters, Joycylyn and Janet.She came to the U.S. in 1970 and immigrated to San Francisco, CA. She worked at multiple places to support her family until she finally obtained a job at PG&E in 1974, where she worked for 25 years. She lived in Fremont, CA most of her life. She was an adventurer and free spirit. She traveled to Europe, Australia and Asia and visited many places in the U.S., Canada and Mexico, by plane, train, bus, automobile, ship and her favorite was by R.V. She was always accompanied by a family member or friend to join her in these adventures. She also loved to garden, decorate cakes and make flower arrangements. She attended Catholic mass at St. James and Holy Spirit in Fremont and St. Anthony in Oakley.In her later years, she joined the senior center in Union City and attended at least three times a week and this gave her a place to work on her painting, knitting, crocheting and nylon flower making. She was a very loving, caring and giving woman. There is nothing she wouldn’t do for her family and friends.Perla is survived by her daughters Joycylyn Elizalde and Janet Cruz,son-in-laws, Edsel Elizalde Sr. and Alex Cruz, grandchildren Katie Lemos, Edsel Elizalde Jr., Patricia Kamlley, Alicia Violet and Guzzie Cruz, great grandchildren Akoni Lemos, Elise Elizalde, Tatum Sees, Jason Lemos, Ian Violet, Alah’ni Cruz and Logan Violet.A viewing will be held on Friday, January 2, 2015 from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm with a rosary at 4:30 pm and the funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 3, 2015 at 11:00 am at Skylawn Memorial Park in San Mateo, CA. A reception will follow the funeral services at New Kwok Wah Restaurant, 32 West 42nd Avenue, San Mateo, CA, 94403.
