Palmay L. Stewart's Obituary
Palmay Stewart, 96 years young of Stockton, Ca. passed away after a brief illness, with family at her bedside on November 15, 2015. She was born at home on February 27, 1919, in Yale, Michigan to David and Leona Laidlaw. She was the youngest of 8 children. As a child, she attended a one room elementary school house across the road from their family farm. In 1937 she graduated from Northern High School in Detroit, Michigan. She went on to graduate from Secretarial School in Detroit. She married the love of her life, Robert D. Stewart in 1942 in Detroit, Michigan. He preceded her in death in 1972 and she never remarried. She lived a long, full, vibrate life. She loved her family, her friends and her faithful little dog, Cinnamon. With a great sense of humor and infectious personality, she had an enormous circle of loyal friends of all ages. She loved dance and music and tapped danced and jitterbugged into her 90’s. She loved tennis and was an avid golfer into her 90’s. In later years she enjoyed chair yoga, reading and napping in the outdoor sunshine. She was truly a positive and loving inspiration to all. Palmay was a working mother most of her adult life. Not because she had to, but because she wanted and loved to. She worked as an Executive Secretary for Homer J. Olson Construction Company until her retirement in the early 1970’s. She always stayed physically active and loved traveling throughout the United States, Mexico, Hawaii, the Caribbean and the United Kingdom with family and friends. She lived in Redwood City, Ca for more than 60 years, but resided in Stockton for the last 6 years with her daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Kim Robbins. She was the cherished mother of Robert Stewart (Jan), Linda (Kim), Cameron (Bobbiejane), Daniel (Gail Akam), Sandra (Tom), Janet (LJ) and Gail (Rob). Beloved grandmother to Bo, Trent, Laura Stewart, Desiree Nielsen, Ryan, Cameron, Elizabeth, Merry Stewart, Hillary, Danielle Stewart, Kari Powelson, Mari Mountsier and Larry Thomas. She is also survived by her numerous and adored great-grandchildren, her beloved extended family and nieces and nephews.She said many times that when she passed “she would be soaring with the angels”.
