Ousama (Sam) Habib Kawar, aged 85, of Fremont, California, passed away peacefully on June 4, 2024. Born on July 3, 1938, in Amman, Jordan, Sam's journey through life was marked by dedication, love, and service to his family, community, and faith.
Sam immigrated from Jordan to the San Francisco Bay Area as a young man, where he pursued his passion for civil engineering. He earned his degree from San Jose State University and began a distinguished career with the Alameda County Public Works Agency, culminating in his role as the Deputy Director of Public Works. Sam's dedication to his profession spanned 35 years, during which he made significant contributions to the community.
A man of deep faith, Sam was an active member of Harbor Light Church in Fremont. His retirement years were as busy and fulfilling as his professional life, filled with international travels, leading Bible studies, teaching classes, volunteering his time at the homeless shelter, and assisting many in establishing non-profit ministries. His commitment to helping others and spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ was a cornerstone of his life.
Sam cherished his family above all. He is survived by his beloved wife of over 50 years, Christiane; his son, Samer; his daughter, Lana, and son-in-law, Daniel; his brother, Nael; and his sisters, Raghda and Riham. He was predeceased by his brother Bassam. Sam found immense joy in spending time with his family and friends, reading the Bible, gardening, and entertaining people with his keen sense of humor.
A memorial service to celebrate Sam's life will be held at Harbor Light Church in Fremont on Saturday, June 22, at 11:00 a.m.
Sam will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His legacy of love, faith, and dedication will continue to inspire and guide those he touched.
