His father Zacarias was a Civil Engineer and Relli was proud to say his father built bridges and infrastructure in various regions of the Philippines. He was able to travel with his father as a child to these regions and enjoyed the times spent with his father. His mother Natalia was a pharmacist/chemist and he would proudly say she developed an ointment for skin irritations.Relli finished law school at Lyceaum of the Philippines University. His thesis: “Liabilities of States for Damages to Individuals in the Realm of International Law”. He tried some jobs after college before working as a detail man (one who introduces new drugs) for a German pharmaceutical firm called Hoechts. Relli and Sylvia decided to emigrate to the U.S. with three little girls in 1967 in hopes for a better life. Relli landed a job at United Airlines about a year later. He worked in the Maintenance Base at SFO for 25 years before retiring at age 60. The family enjoyed traveling abroad and throughout the U.S. as working for the airlines had its perks. If a Karaoke Bar was around or a Karaoke machine was in a house party, you can bet he’d be singing. He loved to dance the Swing and Cha Cha and even competed on TV with Sylvia as his dance partner when they were in their late 20s. Because of his law background he made sure he wrote to his congressman to let them know he was wronged or something was not right. The congressman would even write back to say he would try to make a change in the process. He wrote to businesses when he saw a flaw in its practices. He spoke his mind.Relli leaves behind his devoted wife Sylvia Unalivia. They were married on March 29, 1959 and Relli was already planning their 60th wedding anniversary celebration for March 2019. He has three daughters Renzi S. Miller (Roger), Reena S. Carvallo (Julio), Robert U. Sadueste (son who passed as a newborn), and Rizza S. Burke (Tom). He has 7 grandchildren – Jaizi S. Abedania, Jaren S. Abedania, Melissa Miller, Dominic Carvallo, Natalia Burke, Andre Burke, Alyssa Burke, and Nathaniel Burke. He will truly be missed for his story telling and his giving nature.
