Onofre Benavidez's Obituary
Onofre Cabal Benavidez
It is with great sadness that we must announce the passing of Onofre Cabal Benavidez, known as “Ben” and an endearing nickname, “Ofreng,” among close family and friends. We said goodbye to Ben on Wednesday, March 25, 2020. A Philippine native, Ben graduated with an engineering degree, working as an electrical engineer in private practice before moving to the United States in 1973 and settling in San Mateo, California with his wife and three children. Ben ultimately retired after a nearly 50-year career in civil, electrical, and mechanical engineering in both the private and public sectors. Ben was an entrepreneur and co-founded two companies in his field. He enjoyed designing, building, as well as cultivating others at work and at home. He loved working with his hands – from handiwork around the house, cooking, and gardening to building just about anything. He was a highly ethical and kind man who selflessly served his community, helping both friends and strangers in need. Ben was a willful spirit who possessed a strong work ethic, but also enjoyed a good laugh. He valued the company of others, as he enjoyed party games and ballroom dancing. Ben was a dedicated and nurturing father and grandfather and is survived by his three children, May, April, and June; three granddaughters and a grandson; along with his long-time partner, Gloria. Ben was a generous and deeply caring man and will forever be loved by family and friends abroad and at home.
