Nurdin Basri's Obituary
Nurdin Basri passed away peacefully on November 22, 2019 at 7:10 am in his home surrounded by his family after losing his battle with Leukemia (AML).Nurdin who was also known as Aheng, was born in Jambi, Indonesia. As the second eldest of 10 children, he had to quit the third grade to support his family by selling cigarettes outside of movie theaters and raising his younger brothers and sister. In his early twenties, he was fortunate enough to be introduced to a shipowner who then hired him as a merchant. This shipowner was my late grandfather who recognized his good disposition and later introduced him to his oldest daughter, my mom. They got married several years later and raised 3 children. Later in life, he started his own business selling spare automobile parts. His store was called Sumber Motor and his children were known as Sumber Motor’s children. His life was not a walk in a park however, he tackled life’s challenges with great perseverance and a good attitude towards life. Aheng was well respected for his wisdom, honesty, loyalty, and kindness. After his retirement, he spent equal time visiting his children and grandchildren in Indonesia and US. He enjoyed fixing things around the house while visiting his children. He was not intimidated by the new technology around him. In fact, he became quite familiar with all the bells and whistles the latest electronics had to offer. He is survived by his wife, Sumarni (Achen), son, Djohar, daughters, Rosna and Surjany, sister-in-law, Erlan, sons-in-law, Harpin and Carl Russell, Jr. (Rusty), grandchildren, Stella, Steven, Carl (Trea) and Sydney. In lieu of flowers, please consider sending donations to Saint Jude Children’s Research Hospital:https://www.stjude.org/donate/donate-to-st-jude.html?sc_icid=header-btn-donate-now讣告 旅美华人许府灿兴老先生,祖籍中国广东潮州。
