Norma Jean Ballard's Obituary
The honoring of the woman that is and was, Norma Jean Ballard. Thank you to this amazing family for all of the love and support that have brought us all together today, in remembrance, and celebration of my Mother. Although mom was struggling for the last several years with multiple health issues, she was affectionately labeled “Termi – momma” due to her resilience and pulling through against all odds. This is why last Wednesday, when I received a phone call at 5:45am from David, telling me that Mom was dying – I was shocked – and half asleep – and shocked some more. I was so happy that I was able to say I love you to her – and her to me the night before – and joke about “if not one thing – than another” re: her fall the morning before. Funny story – mom fell after getting a cookie from the kitchen. David did not dare to move her and hospice told him to call paramedics. After she fell, she was wedged between a coffee table and her recliner – David straitened her out and tried to make her as comfortable as possible, while he called the paramedics. He looked over, after his call, and saw that mom had grabbed the cookie off of the floor and was munching away. When David, incredulously, asked what she was thinking/doing – her response: “I’m eating my damn cookie” (or something like this). David said that he chuckled and that the look on her face was like that of a child. When David shared this – I burst out laughing.Services will be held in her honor at Skylawn Funeral Home and Memorial Park in San Mateo, California on Thursday, October 30, 2014 at 11:00 AM
