Nicky Preston Bloom's Obituary
Following a battle with cancer, Nicky Preston Bloom died on December 26, 2015, at his home in Half Moon Bay, CA. He was 64. Nick is survived by his wife, Susan Bloom; his sons, Jackson and Matthew Bloom; his son-in-law, Jacob Jeffries; his sister, Julie Bloom; and numerous nieces and nephews.Nick was born on April 19, 1951, in East Islip, NY, to father Erwin K. Bloom and mother Eunice F. Bloom, who predeceased him. In high school, he was the drummer for rock-and-roll band The Rogues. He was also a two-sport athlete, earning an award for excellence on the basketball court.After high school, he attended Southern Methodist University, in Dallas. There, he pledged Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity, which facilitated an introduction to his wife-to-be, Susan Baker. They were married in March 1974 before moving to Southern California, where Nick began a career in the machine-tool industry. His 40-plus-year career took him ! from Los Angeles to the Chicagoland area and finally, after he founded a successful Internet company in the mid 1990s, to the San Francisco Bay Area, where he operated his one-man business from home.Nick was truly happy in Half Moon Bay. He enjoyed biking to Pigeon Point, golfing at The Ocean Course, spending time in wine country, and walking the Half Moon Bay Coastal Trail. In spite of his illness, Nick was committed not only to his family and business but also to the Half Moon Bay community, volunteering each week at the local “No Strings Attached” breakfast.A memorial service will be held in his honor. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be sent to Second Harvest Food Bank of Santa Clara and San Mateo Counties or Community Gatepath of Redwood City, CA.
