Natalie Potapshyn Rodriguez's Obituary
Natalie Potapshyn Rodriguez Passed away peacefully on July 10, 2009 at the age of 90. Born in New York City and raised in Detroit, Natalie graduated from Wayne State University with a BS degree in sociology. Natalie’s first trip to San Francisco came in 1944 when she visited her brother prior to his deployment to the Philippines. Natalie fell in love with the City and decided to make this her home. Natalie had a long and distinguished career working for the citizens of San Francisco with her career culminating as a supervisor for the San Francisco Adult Probation Department. She was a member of many philanthropic and civic organizations. In her spare time she loved to travel, read, sew, knit and especially spend time with her family. Loving mother to daughter Elena and son-in-law Gary Simonian (Millbrae); special Grams to granddaughter, Nicole and her husband Peter Magaddino (Belmont); devoted sister to Tanya Burke (Spartanburg, SC); compassionate “Tete” to Nick Burke (Marybeth), Judy Bynum (Brant), Buddy Burke (Holly), and Tracy Burke; and caring great-aunt, cousin and friend. Her brother, Pfc. Nick Potapshyn (killed in action: 1944), precedes Natalie; along with her parents Nikifor and Yelena Potapshyn. Visitation will be held from 5-8pm on Tuesday, July 14 with a reciting of the Rosary at 7pm. Services and a celebration of Natalie’s life will be held on Wednesday, July 15 at 11:00 am.
