Naichih "Nancy" M. Wang's Obituary
Nai-Chih Mo Wang (莫迺芝), better known as Nancy by her friends, a caring and loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, peacefully passed away at home surrounded by her loving family on July 28, 2021, at age 90.
Nancy was born on October 3, 1930, in the city of Harbin, located in Northeastern China, to Mo Song-Lian and Yu Xiu-Zhen. She was the eldest of 5 siblings: one sister Mo Nai-Sue, and three brothers, Mo Nai-Lun, Mo Nai-Jie, and Mo Nai-Dian. She graduated from Taipei Girls Normal College and taught at the prestigious Taipei Fuhsing Private Elementary School (復興小學) for more than 20 years. Nancy was a well-respected teacher who was loved by all her students. Over the last 40 years, many of her students have kept in touch with her. In 2019, her students held a special reunion to celebrate her 90th birthday and told stories about their fond memories from Nancy’s classroom.
Nancy met David T.Y. Wang (王天佑) after college through family friends. Nancy’s grandfather Mr. Mo Teh-Hui (莫德惠) officiated their wedding ceremony on December 25, 1952. Mr. Mo Teh-Hui was a well-respected politician in China who ran for the Vice Presidency of the Republic of China in 1948 and served as the president of the Examination Yuan (考試院長) in Taiwan. Nancy and David were happily married for 52 years until David’s death in 2004. She is survived by her four children, Rudy(王相中), Grace(王相華), Stan(王相民), and Danny(王相國), daughter-in-laws Michelle, Victoria, and Karen, son-in-law Jan, and five grandchildren, Tim, Nick, Emily, Haley, and Samantha.
Nancy was lovingly known as “NaiNai” by her 5 adoring grandchildren. NaiNai’s love for all of her grandchildren was always overflowing, ever patient and exuberant. NaiNai showed her love by cooking her homemade pot stickers, chow-mein, Da-Lu mein, and garlic stir fried broccoli and spinach. At her grandchildren’s sports games, she was the loudest cheerleader on the basketball stands or on the sideline of volleyball games. NaiNai also wished she had adopted Stephen Curry and Nathan Chen as her grandkids since she was a devoted Golden State Warriors and figure skating fan.
Aside from being a sports fan, Nancy herself was quite an athlete. She loved to tap dance, ice skate, and enjoyed acting. She was a talented bowler with many trophies displayed in her house. She continued to win bowling tournaments well into her 80s. She also enjoyed watching movies and had a soft spot for Chinese and Korean dramas.
Nancy left a legacy of love, generosity, and kindness to those who she cared for, taught, and befriended. She will be honored in a celebration of her life at Skylawn Memorial on Thursday, August 5, 2020, from 11am-1pm.
