Nae Jiuun Dun's Obituary
Nae Jiuun Dun, a distinguished neuroscientist and devoted family man, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, in Danville, California, at the age of 80, following a courageous battle with a neurodegenerative disorder.
Born in Shanghai, China, to Meng Chieh and Shiao Shing, Nae was raised in Hong Kong. He was a graduate of the prestigious Pui Ching Middle School before immigrating to the United States to pursue his education. His journey took him from San Francisco to Chicago, where he studied pharmacology at the University of Illinois, graduating with honors. It was in Chicago that Nae met the love of his life, Siok Le Tan, on a blind date arranged by close friends. They were married on July 8, 1972, and shared over 50 years of marriage, raising two children and several beloved pets.
Dr. Dun’s career in neuroscience was truly illustrious. A prolific researcher, he published over 100 peer-reviewed articles and authored the definitive 1985 text, Neurobiology of Acetylcholine. He was a dedicated mentor to countless graduate students and held esteemed faculty and leadership positions at Loyola University, the Medical College of Ohio, East Tennessee State University, and Temple University, where he served as Chairman of Pharmacology.
Following his retirement from Temple University in 2018, Nae returned to the San Francisco Bay Area to enjoy his later years. He is survived by his wife, Siok Le Dun; his daughter, Erica Dun; his son, Bryant Dun; and his cherished grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his older brother, David Dun.
Service Details: A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, at Skylawn Memorial Park & Funeral Home in San Mateo, California.
