Monica Greene's Obituary
Monica Joan Greene passed away peacefully on July 11, 2025 surrounded by her family and friends. She is survived by her loving husband, Samuel Brown, her son, Benignus (Bennie) Brown, her mother Joan Greene, brother Kevin, sister Ann, and predeceased by her father, Benignus, and brothers Brian and David. She also leaves behind her treasured nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, aunts, uncle, and cousins.
Monica was raised in San Mateo where she attended St. Gregory’s Catholic School, Hillsdale High School, and College of San Mateo. Monica continued her education at U.C. Davis, earning a bachelor’s degree in biopsychology and graduating with honors. She worked in research facilities, helped children with cochlear implants, and managed offices before settling into bookkeeping where she thrived.
While at university, she met Sam, the love of her life. They married in 2000 and in 2006, they welcomed their beautiful son Bennie. She and her family moved to Pacifica, California in 2007 where Monica was highly involved in Bennie’s school and afterschool activities. Bennie was named after Monica’s father with whom she and her family spent weekends exploring new locations, hiking trails, and shopping at farmers markets. Every outing included a search for the best eggs and toast they could find.
Monica loved summers in Cazadero, holidays at Disneyland, and scouring second-hand stores for incredible deals. She loved being close to the ocean, splashing in the water regardless of temperature; a true Pisces. She loved animals, raised chickens for eggs, would pet any dog, lovingly tolerated cats, and adored bunnies. She was fiercely proud of her Irish heritage, and loved her trips to Ireland, including an incredible tour with her son and husband to explore the majestic beauty and show where her family originated. She enjoyed family vacations to Hawaii, Florida, the Grand Canyon, and Las Vegas. She was a great dancer and the life of every party. Ethereally beautiful and profoundly intelligent, wickedly funny, and constantly self-deprecating. Loved by so many, Monica will be remembered and missed by everyone with whom she came in contact.
A rosary service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 27th at St. Gregory’s Church located at 2715 Hacienda Street in San Mateo.
There will be a visitation at 9:45 a.m., followed by a funeral mass on Monday, July 28th at St. Gregory’s Church.
