Miyoko Yamamoto 1923 – 2014After a long illness, Miyoko Yamamoto passed away peacefully at home on November 20, 2014 in the loving care of her son, Melvin. Miyoko lived her final weeks enduring medical therapies much like her previous 91 years with amazing courage, dignity and endless love for others.Miyoko was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Minoru of 57 years. She is survived by her three sons, Melvin, Stanley and daughter-in-law Laura, and son Chris. She is remembered and loved by granddaughters Janice and Sharyl, grandsons Mitchell and Patrick, sisters-in-law Susie Gilbert and Kimi Yamamoto, niece Peggy Kiyono, husband Ron Kiyono, daughter Michelle, and a number of family and friends in Japan.Born on February 6, 1923 in Fresno, CA to Fukuzo and Shizue Hatakeda, Miyoko grew up in Japan where she resided through the war years. Miyoko and Minoru married and moved from Japan in 1954 to raise a family and build a new life in California. The family had been longtime members of Pine United Methodist Church in San Francisco where Miyoko and Minoru had many friends and loved to devote time and energy in supporting the church in all of their activities. Lifelong residents of the San Francisco bay area, they lived many years in San Francisco and Daly City before moving to Fremont after their retirement.Miyoko was known by all friends and acquaintances for her welcoming smile and generosity. She loved taking care of her grandchildren many years ago and continued to put her energy into hosting large holiday family gatherings. She was known for her talents sewing dresses and preparing sumptuous dinners. Miyoko also had a passion for her garden where she labored many hours nurturing her flowers and growing fresh produce. Remarkably she managed to harvest her last tomatoes this past summer.Friends and family are invited to attend funeral services on Wednesday, December 3, 2014 at 11am at Skylawn funeral home in San Mateo.
