Ming Sing Wong's Obituary
Wong Ming Sing, a devoted family man, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loved ones, in California on February 15, 2025. He was 92. Born in China on November 19, 1932, Ming Sing lived a life rich in experience and wholeheartedly dedicated to providing for his family and contributing to the community.
Ming Sing grew up in China and left for Hong Kong before he was twenty. There, he served as a medic. Then, with his commitment to service and protection, he entered the Hong Kong Royal Police Force. His diverse career also included time as a merchant marine, where he nurtured his love for travel. Later, he brought his family of five to America in pursuit of new opportunities as U.S. citizens. In America, he became a successful restaurateur, all the while navigating a new culture, making new friends, and providing for his family.
Ming Sing was a lifelong learner. He was passionate about staying informed, regularly listening to the news and engaging in lively coffee chats with his friends. His interests spanned from the artistic—playing both the harmonica and the erhu—to the intellectual, including his coin-collecting hobby. He had a quick-witted sense of humor that often stole the show, and his deep knowledge of seemingly everything always impressed those who knew him. He also loved to travel, exploring new places and cultures with his wife. His love for cooking brought joy to his family and friends with every dish he prepared.
Ming Sing was a devoted husband to Wong Chan Wing Yee. Together, they built a loving family, including their children, Christina Ting, Thomas Wong, and Wendy Wong. He cherished his role as a grandfather to Alex Ting, Darren Ting, West Wong-DeLoughrey, and Mick Wong-DeLoughrey. He was a loving brother, survived by his siblings Wong Jia Bi, Wong Jia Ying, Wong Ming Yao, and Wong Jia Mi, and predeceased by his brothers Wong Ming Liang and Wong Ming Yuan.
Ming Sing’s legacy is one of hard work, dedication, and love for his family. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. He leaves behind memories filled with warmth, kindness, the sweet melodies of his harmonica and erhu, his deep, loud, heartfelt laugh, and his thunderous sneeze.
The family would like to thank the staff at Suncrest Hospice Care and Britannia Place for the comfort and care they provided to Ming Sing and our family during this most difficult time.
