Min Hui Zhang's Obituary
Remembering Our Courageous Matriarch, Min Hui Zhang
August 8th, 1928 – October 15th, 2025
“Work Hard and Go for it”
We, her children Tak Lun Wong, Anita Kar Ling Wong Luk, and Dexi Huang, hold close every moment spent with our mother, Min Hui Zhang. She built our family with steady love and a spirited laugh that filled every room.
Born in China, Mom’s grit showed early, especially the day she slipped away from local officials who frowned on her Mahjong games. She came home breathless yet smiling, declaring that no one should be kept from a good hand with friends.
Mahjong stayed her favorite activity, and she taught each of us the rhythms of the tiles around the kitchen table. Those evenings always ended in shared snacks, easy teasing, and her gentle reminder that connection mattered more than any score.
Mom lived her motto, “Work Hard and Go for it,” through a life marked by resilience, generosity, and sharp intelligence. Whether guiding us through schoolwork or quietly slipping help to a neighbor, she never waited to be asked.
She spent her final day in Oakland, CA at home, surrounded by the voices she loved. We will keep playing Mahjong, hearing her steady advice in each click of the tiles, and carrying her supportive spirit forward.
