Mildred C. Buckley
October 24, 1916- May 23, 2020
Mildred was born in Rudy, Arkansas, and passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 23, 2020 in Daly City, California at the age of 103. Mildred was the 2nd of 8 children born to Ella Granger Temple and James Willie McCaslin. Mildred was raised in Arkansas and moved to San Francisco, California as a young adult with her brother, Herold, and her mother, Ella, during World War II. Mildred had a long career as a seamstress working for various companies such as, I.Magnin & Co., and retired as a seamstress from United Airlines. Mildred and her late husband, Bernard Glover Buckley, “Buckley”, enjoyed the employee benefit of flying and were known to leave their home in South San Francisco, to fly to Hawaii for a movie or a Don Ho show. Mildred and Buckley raised 3 sons, Robert, Bernerd, and David in the house they purchased in 1952 in South San Francisco. Mildred was still the owner of the house upon her passing. Mildred and Buckley enjoyed spending time with their sons and extended family during family visits to Los Angeles or camping and fishing in Yosemite, Feather River, or Lake Berryessa. Mildred was an avid gardener who saved her seeds to replant the following year. Mildred’s heirloom tomatoes were a show-stopper at the traditional large family Thanksgiving dinners that she hosted for many years.
Mildred was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, Herold, Wilma, Lorene, Jacksie, and J.R., her husband, her sons, Robert, and David Buckley, and daughter-in-law, Carla Buckley. Mildred is survived by her sisters, Roberta Ross, Bonnie Stowell, her remaining son, Bernerd Buckley, and daughter-in-law, Dede Buckley. Mildred is survived by her grandchildren, Deanne, Leanne, Robert, Jennifer, Megan, Shannon, Michael, Patrick, Narice, Derek, and 21 great-grandchildren.
A special thank you goes to Roberta Ross, Mildred’s sister, companion, caretaker, and best friend. Mildred was so fortunate to have Roberta by her side for the past 13 years. A graveside service will be held at Skylawn Memorial Park Cemetary on June 12, 2020 in San Mateo, California where she will be buried alongside her late husband, and son, David. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: American Cancer Society Relay for Life.
