Miguel Angel CruzBeloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, born April 30th, 1925 in Villahermosa, Tabasco to Jose Bienvenido Cruz and Carmen Olan, passed away peacefully September 24th, 2014 in his San Francisco home surrounded by his loving family. He is survived by his wife, Fanny Cruz, and loving children James Cruz (deceased), Gilbert Cruz Noriega, Annette Cruz-Padilla, Carolyn Monica Cruz-Jaramillo and Paul Malespin.Miguel came to the U.S. in 1945 when he traveled to Kansas looking for work. He decided to migrate to Roseville, Sacramento in 1950 before finally planting his roots in San Francisco. He was an avid percussionist, guitar player and singer and performed in local San Francisco clubs like Cesar’s Latin Palace, while at the same time he volunteered his musical talents by performing in El Grupo Hispano musical choir at Epiphany Parish, he MC’d for most dances and parties at the 30th and Dolores Senior Center and finally in a Trio playing romantic ballads at La Corneta Taqueria on Fridays and Saturdays.He loved to bowl and play billiards and won several trophies for his high scores. He ended his passion for bowling while on a senior league in SF in 1988. Miguel worked for the Escondido Orange Association Sunkist in 1951, Cahill Construction 1954 and Construction & General Laborers Union #261 in 1955.During this time he helped in construction to build parts of highway 101 in San Francisco. Mike, as he was called, also had a long career working in the Hunter’s Point naval shipyard as a painter until they moved to Mare Island Naval Shipyard. Once he retired he devoted his time volunteering at the 30th St. Senior Center, playing music and enjoying life with his family.Services will be held in his honor at Skylawn Funeral Home and Memorial Park in San Mateo, California on Friday, October 3, 2014.
