Michael Louis Gottula's Obituary
Michael Louis Gottula, 71, passed away on April 24, 2026.
He was born on June 28, 1954, in San Mateo, California, to Vern and Virginia Gottula, and was raised in San Carlos, where he spent his early years.
Michael graduated from Carlmont High School in Belmont. He went on to work as a courier delivering bank documents, and later worked for another company delivering medical supplies. He took pride in his work and the reliability it required.
Michael had a deep appreciation for the outdoors, and some of his most cherished memories were made at the family cabin in Crystal Falls, which was built together by the family. He loved camping and spending time in nature, especially in Yosemite and along the Feather River. His connection to the outdoors remained a constant throughout his life.
From a young age, Michael had a special love for animals. As a member of the 4-H Club, he raised two lambs, showing both dedication and care. At home growing up, he raised chickens and cared for pigeons, a rabbit, and even peacocks—reflecting a lifelong interest in animals and the natural world. As an adult, he had a beloved golden retriever named Bernie.
Michael was baptized and confirmed at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Redwood City, where his faith was an important part of his life.
Michael will be remembered for his appreciation of nature, his gentle spirit, and the time he spent with family.
He is survived by his older brother Joe (Nancy); sisters Patti (Wes), Gin (Kelly), and Susan (Geoff); nieces Kristen, Nicole (Javi), and Michelle; nephews Robert and James (Hailey); and great-nieces Sienna, Jaslynn, Autumn, Scarlet, Jianna, and Avrie.
He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
