Michael J. Daily's Obituary
Michael Daily, known to his family as “Jerry,” passed away peacefully under hospice care in Walnut Creek, CA, on Saturday, August 16, 2014. He was 76 years old.Born October 25, 1937 in Detroit, MI, to George and Mae Daily, Michael spent most of his life in Michigan. He attended St. Mary’s Catholic HS in Wayne, MI, honorably served in the US Army and received his BS and MBA from Michigan State University. He married Linda McKinley in April, 1966 and settled in Plymouth, MI, where they raised their family. Michael taught English and History for 35 years in Livonia, MI, first at Whitman Junior High and then at Stevenson High School where he retired in 2000. He spent part of his summers doing construction and teaching driver’s education. Summers also included swimming and picnics at Murray’s Lake and camping across the country with his family. Travel plans always included historic sites, national parks, amusement parks and outdoor adventures, typically near mountains or water. Some of his favorite places to visit were Ouray, CO, Gulf Shores, AL, and any place with homemade chocolate milkshakes. He was active in the community as a member of Plymouth Civitans, supporting Special Olympics, organizing the Stevenson HS Ski Club, sailing and traveling. As a big Spartan fan, Michael attended and enjoyed many Michigan State Football games.Michael is survived by his wife of 30 years, Linda Daily of Walnut Creek, CA, formerly of Plymouth, MI; children, Bridget Coonce and husband Gary Coonce of Walnut Creek, CA, and Kellie Turkisher and husband Rich Turkisher of Portland, OR; grandchildren, Sean, Alexandra, and McKenzie Coonce and Cameron and Reese Turkisher; brothers, Thomas Daily and wife Maryanne of Wayne, MI, and Stan Daily and wife Susan of Stockbridge, MI; numerous special cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. He maintained many lifelong friendships through his years of teaching and his work with Civitans.Funeral service and burial with military honors will take place near the Pacific Ocean on Friday, September 12, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Skylawn Memorial Park, 10600 Skyline Blvd., San Mateo, CA. A celebration of life and Christian service will be held on Saturday, October 11, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. (family and friends will be received at 10:00 a.m.) at Harry J. Will Funeral Home, 34567 Michigan Ave., Wayne, MI.His family would like to extend special thanks to Vitas Hospice Care for making his last days comfortable and peaceful.
