Max Levy's Obituary
Max Levy passed away on February 6, 2014. He was 86. He was born on April 12, 1927 in Cairo, Egypt to parents Zakeya and Yeshayahou Levy. Max had two older sisters, Regine and Esther, and one younger brother, Maurice. In the 1950s, Max immigrated to Israel where he served in the military police, as well as having jobs as an accountant and architect. He married Hilda in Israel, and had two daughters, Varda and Anat. In October 1967, Max moved his family to the United States in search of “The American Dream,” which they achieved. Despite not being proficient in English, Max went to school for years and obtained a Bachelor of Science and a Master’s Degree in Accounting from Golden Gate University. He worked as Chief Accountant at Joseph Magnin from 1968-1972, Accounting Manager at Mervyn’s from 1972 to 1980, and as Controller at James A. Robertson Co. from 1980-1994. Max is survived by his brother Maurice (Mireille), his daughters Varda (Bruce) and Anat (Steve), his grandchildren, Sean, Nikki, Jesse, Lauren, Casey, Jackie and Nick, as well as many friends and extended family. Max was undeniably smart, funny, loving, and particularly knowledgeable in Middle-Eastern politics. He was always a charmer with the ladies and his buddies, and an inspiration to us all. We love Max dearly; he will live in our hearts forever.
