Mary Elizabeth Seyk's Obituary
MARY ELIZABETH SEYKAPRIL 23,1917-JUNE 20,2011Known as mom, grandma and great-grandma, Mary Seyk departed to be with her husband of over sixty-seven years on June 20, 2011 at the age of 94. Mary was born at home in Chicago on April 23, 1917 to Goldie and Frank Allott and was raised in Chicago where she met, fell into a lifelong love and married Edward Seyk. Edward went to heaven to make a place for them both in 2007. Together life was filled with the joy of four children, Donald, Karen, Cynthia and Judith; all surviving and living in the San Francisco Bay Area today. Mary was a stay at home mom with a passion for swimming. She spent many hours teaching swimming to adults and children of all ages at a local YMCA and anywhere else she might find a swim opportunity. Swimming was to be a lifelong joy at many places where she lived or vacationed. Most recently she was known for swimming 30 or more laps per day at the retirement community Classic Residence by Hyatt (now called VI) and she did so onto her 93rd year.Mary moved with her husband to South Pasadena in 1974 and to Hillsborough CA in 1978. Over time all of her children moved to the San Francisco Bay Area where she was blessed with four grandchildren; Shawn, Robert, Trenton and Alexis. These grandchildren later blessed her with nine great grand-children; Sarah, Ryan, Nicholas, Nathan, Logan, Andrew, Claire, Landon and Ava. She found great joy in seeing each of this extended family grow, learn to swim, and establish their own lives. Each of her children were special to her and she lived to enjoy the arrival of each one. She spent many hours preparing "special" dinners with her love and talent for cooking at birthdays, holidays and just because. All in the family held her in great esteem as she was a "special Lady" that brought joy to all that knew her. She could put warmth in a conversation, laughter in the moment and appreciation for all of God's blessings to those whose lives she touched. Likewise she will be missed by those that were blessed to be part of her family or just knew her in the daily events of life.Services will be held at Skylawn Memorial Park located at Highway 92 and Skylawn Blvd. in the hills above San Mateo on Saturday, July 2, 2011 at 11 AM.
