Mary Elizabeth Lowe's Obituary
Mary Elizabeth Nuckolls was born on May 3, 1929, in Chicago. She got her degree in Nutrition from Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa in 1952 and worked until 1995 as a registered dietitian in St. Paul Minnesota where her four sons David, Ken, Tom and John were born. She later worked at Sequoia Hospital from 1963 until retirement in 1995. Mary was a dedicated mom and did her best to raise four boys as a single parent. Her life was a miracle considering the obstacles she had to overcome - she had a brain tumor when she was about 3 years old and had to undergo surgery at a time when they did not have the advancements of today. The tumor came back and she had to have a second surgery a few years later. The residual effects of this included a late start in school and many challenges throughout her early life. It was though her dogged determination and that of her mother Helen that she pushed through her challenges and earned her bachelor's degree in nutrition.
Mary was quiet and reserved. She tended to keep to herself. She had a strong will - her sign was Taurus - worked hard, saved her money and lived frugally, the way she wanted to. In 1968 she bought the house she lived in until recently - a 5 bedroom near the Woodside Plaza neighborhood on the southwest corner of Redwood city. Her children were fortunate to have public schools within walking distance and a safe place to play in the streets, ride their bikes, throw papers on our routes after school to earn money and to live in a low crime area. They were and are truly blessed.
