Mary Victoria Heron's Obituary
Mary Victoria Heron
Mary Victoria Heron unexpectedly passed away in the prime of her life on May 16, 2023, at Mills-Peninsula Medical Center, Burlingame, CA. Vicky was a woman of integrity, authenticity and diverse talents. She was a valued and supportive role model to her family and numerous friends, touching all who knew her with her practical advice, counsel and many kindnesses. Quite simply, she was a joy to be around, and perhaps one of the wittiest people any of us ever met. She will be sorely missed.
Survived by her spouse William J. Heron, son Nicholas L. Craig (Amy) and her beloved grandchildren Ryan, Emma, Laura, Erika, Griffin and Gavin, stepchildren Charles L. Craig (Jen), Alexandra Heron (Gustavo Sandoval) and William Heron (Sonya), brother Harry Bade (Diane) and sister Lesley Allegro (Jim, deceased) along with many cousins, nieces, nephews, in-laws, friends and colleagues, too numerous to note, but you all know who you are and the special place Vicky held for you in her heart.
Vicky was born in Bronxville, NY and grew up in Greenwich, CT. She attended the University of Miami. Her first job was in sports sales administration at Time-Life. She was one of the two first female advertising salespeople for New York Magazine. Vicky was truly an industry trailblazer. She married Charles L. Craig in 1974 and on October 22, 1985, her son Nicholas Longworth August Craig was born. After the birth of Nicholas, she returned to work for the Hunt Farm development in Waccabuc, NY. She later moved into major renovation contracting and interior design, primarily focusing on homes in Bedford, NY. Vicky was a gifted athlete and excelled in numerous sports, becoming a tournament-winning golfer and runner-up club champion in paddle tennis. She loved dogs and had Welsh Corgis or Scottish Terriers throughout her life.
On March 6, 1993, she married William J. Heron and they relocated to Hillsborough, CA. She was a devoted mother involved with her son’s education and activities. When he later attended the Crystal Springs Uplands School, she served for a decade as a Board trustee. She was also a member of the Auxiliary to Family Service Agency of San Mateo. In 2003, she became a realtor and until her death, continued to be one of the top real estate specialists in the Hillsborough-San Mateo area.
Services will be at The Episcopal Church of St. Matthew (1 S El Camino Real, San Mateo, CA) on Friday June 9 at 10:30 am. Reception will immediately follow at The Peninsula Golf and Country Club (701 Madera Drive, San Mateo, CA). Arrangements are being made by Skylawn Funeral Home and Memorial Park (skylawnmemorialpark.com), San Mateo. Flowers are appreciated as Vicky loved them or she would request that you give to Mills-Peninsula Hospital Foundation or to a charity of your choice, particularly one that benefits young children as her grandchildren were her passion.
