Mary Ann Gorospe Zamora's Obituary
With sadness in our hearts, we say goodbye to Mary Ann. She succumbed to liver cancer and passed away in her home in Livermore, California on Friday, August 10, 2018 at 6:31pm surrounded by family and friends.Mary Ann was born the eldest of seven siblings on September 19, 1953 in Quezon City, Philippines. Mary Ann joins her mother, Telesfora Buendia Gorospe (d. June 1, 2000) and her brother, Arturo Buendia Gorospe (d. November 20, 2001) in heaven. She is survived by her life partner, Fatima Montana, sons and daughter-in-law, Armando-Kristo Gorospe Zamora and wife Diana Lyn Maligat Zamora, Frederick Gorospe Zamora, and Brandon Gorospe Zamora. She is also survived by her father, Abelardo Gorospe, Sr. and her siblings and their respective spouses and children: her brother, Abelardo (Junn) Gorospe, Jr. and his wife, Olivia Gorospe, and their daughters, Jessica Gorospe and Jenellyn Gorospe; her sister, Aurora Tamase and her husband, Noli Miguel R. Tamase; her sister, Aurelia Zenaida Mangabat and her husband, Oscar Mangabat, along with their daughters and their respective families, Stephanie Kudemus and her husband, Michael Kudemus; and Michelle Furuzawa and her husband, Matthew Furuzawa; her brother, Amado Gorospe, and her brother, Apollo Gorospe and his daughter, Alexis B. Gorospe. Mary Ann is also survived by her grandnieces and grandnephews, Maia Victoria Mangabat Kudemus, Elia Anne Mangabat Kudemus, Dean Orion Mangabat Kudemus, Jordan Toshihiro Mangabat Furuzawa, and Dolly, her personal Therapy Dog.Mary Ann came to the United States from the Philippines on June 8, 1968, along with her father and siblings, to join their mother in San Francisco. She graduated from Lincoln High School in 1971, continued her education at City College of San Francisco, and completed courses at Heald College in San Francisco for word processing and elementary computer science. She worked at Crown Zellerbach Corporation as a data entry clerk, then Mervyn’s for 12 years as a sales associate while raising three rambunctious boys.Mary Ann enjoyed a very active social life, frequently meeting or calling family and friends, enjoyed going to the movies, and loved to travel. She was also active at the St. Michael’s Parish in Livermore, California. Mary Ann served the sick and homebound as a Eucharistic Minister. She completed many pilgrimages abroad in Europe and the Holy Land. Locally, she visited all 21 Spanish Catholic missions in California with her father. When home, she enjoyed gardening, reading the local newspaper, solving the day’s Word Jumbles and crossword puzzles, and adding to her elephant and Mickey and Minnie collections.Family and friends are welcome to attend the Viewing and Reflections on Thursday, August 23, 2018 from 1pm to 4pm. The Memorial Service will take place on Friday, August 24, 2018 from 11am-12:30pm followed immediately by reception and catered lunch. All services will be held at Skylawn Memorial Park, Highway 92 & Skyline Blvd, San Mateo, CA 94402.Flowers should be ordered via All Season Florist and Gifts (415) 956-7878 for delivery to Skylawn the morning of Thursday, August 23.
