Mary Erickson's Obituary
Mary June Erickson, longtime resident of the San Francisco bay area passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on September 27, 2013 at the age of 97. Born on June 1, 1916 in Danbury, Ohio to Vernon Ivan Buck and Edna Alice Butts, she was the eldest of two children. As a young woman, Mary graduated from Petaluma High School and later attended the Rudolph Schaeffer School of Design, the College of San Mateo where she earned an Associates Degree, and San Francisco State University where she proudly earned her Bachelor’s Degree with teaching credentials. Upon completion of her education, Mary began her career as an artist, teacher, educational consultant and author.On May 5, 1943, in Little Rock, Arkansas Mary June married the love of her life, Mr. Albert Oscar Erickson with whom she shared a 66 year marriage before his passing in 2009. Together, the young couple had two children, Jon and Ethel. In 1975, after fourteen years of service, Mary June retired and began to be involved in print making, quilting, traveling and cooking.Throughout her life, Mary has lived all over the San Francisco Bay Area; first in Oakland, Menlo Park, Aptos, San Mateo and finally in Santa Rosa. While living in the bay, she was an active member in Unitarian Churches in both San Mateo and Palo Alto.The moments in her life Mary cherished most were her graduation from college, getting married, having her children, her art shows and travels to Japan. Mary also enjoyed writing, art, haiku, watching and feeding birds, listening to Jazz music, the Chico Hamilton Quartette and “Satin Doll”.Mary June Erickson was predeceased by her husband; Albert Oscar Erickson, her parents and Vernon Ivan Buck and Edna Alice Butts. She is survived by her two children; Jon Ericson of Pollock Pines, CA. and Ethel (Gene) Daly of San Mateo, CA. She also leaves behind life-long friends Jim McCauitt, Mary McMurdo, Micha and Linda Schwabrow.Friends and family will always remember Mary as an artistically driven, generous, vibrant, humorous and loving woman.In her honor, we will be holding celebratory memorial services at Oakmont Gardens on Sunday October 13th, 2013 from 3:00- 5:00pm Skylawn Funeral Home and Memorial Park on Sunday, October 27th, 2013 at 1:00pm Wear something colorful to honor Mary June`s career as an artist.
