She retired in the mid-2000’s but came back to work for Dr. Hutchinson in 2011 until she took a leave of absence in September 2017.Marva Louise Eden was born in Progresso, Honduras and emigrated to the United States in the 1950s. Brought here by her grandmother, Lilly Mae Burton, she first lived in New York, relocated to San Francisco and eventually settled in San Mateo, CA. Between her and her grandmother she helped many family members emigrate to the United States (chain migration) who now live in many states from California across the country to New Jersey. While in San Francisco the family attended St. Cyprian’s church and when they relocated to San Mateo, St. Matthews was their home church. She married in 1974 and Marva Alston became Marva McAdoo; for a very brief period she lived in Menlo Park, CA. She returned to San Mateo about 1980. Over the past 20 years Marva has been a member of San Mateo Presbyterian Church at 25th and Hacienda where she leaves behind an enormous church family who loved her dearly.Marva never let the grass grow under her feet. She enjoyed membership in several Fraternal organizations and was very devoted to their commitment to the community. Brown Jr. Assembly #343 of San Jose, CA Order of the Golden Circle. There will be a quiet hour service on February 4th, 2018, where her fraternal organizations will celebrate her life and commitment to the organizations and present the family with various resolutions.Marva traveled extensively across the country with the Fraternal organizations. Rarely would she miss out on an opportunity to enjoy a day with her eldest son, Michael and his wife Fe up at a local restaurant or driving up to Cache Creek for a day of gambling. Her youngest, Joseph, also a member of the Fraternal order, was at her side for many events. Herbert usually “got out of town” and would join his mother in Hawaii for an annual conference or as in 2017 when he joined her in Nassau, Bahamas. The best was when he convinced her to go to Barcelona, Spain, over the Christmas-New Year holidays in 2015. There she walked through the great Sagrada Familia church; the largest unfinished Roman Catholic Church in the world.Marva was never without a smile and always made people smile who were around her. Although, her passing was unexpected, it was peaceful and in the prior 48 hours of her passing she spent time with her three sons. Herbert and his mother had an early dinner together during which his older brother Michael called to say hello. Her last words to her son Herbert just hours before she passed were “I love you very much.”“I told her, “I love you,” she said the same, reached up to my face and rubbed it before she went to sleep. ““I’m going to lie in bed and see what these Warriors are going to do. I’ll talk to you in the morning,” she said.Marva passed peacefully in her sleep Thursday morning, January 18, 2018, in her home. The memorial service and celebration of her life will held on Monday February 5th, 2018 at Skylawn Memorial Park.
