Marshall Minyuan Wang's Obituary
Marshall Wang was born in Shanghai, China, on January 1, 1982, to Zheng Wei Qiu and Yi Jing Wang. Although he was an only child, Marshall shared a deep bond with his extended family. He cared deeply for his aunts, uncles, cousins, and grandparents, always making sure to stay connected and involved in their lives. He was especially close to his cousins, whom he loved like siblings. His connection to his family was a cornerstone of his life, and the love they shared was evident in everything he did.
In November 1988, at the age of six, Marshall and his family moved to Sydney, Australia. It was there, at age seven, that he began fishing with his father and cooking for his family - hobbies that sparked lifelong passion. He attended Canterbury Boys High School, where he played rugby and took cooking classes.
At 16, Marshall and his family relocated to Hayward, California, where he attended Hayward High School. There, he played football and built lasting connections with friends and teammates alike. During this time, he was fortunate to meet two of his closest friends, Alex Rodriguez and John Seumalo.
They spent countless hours together - especially fishing with Alex, who is now resting in peace and no doubt fishing alongside Marshall in paradise. His bond with John was just as cherished, filled with memories that will last a lifetime. These friendships were a testament to the bonds that time, love and shared moments can create.
After graduating in 2000, Marshall joined the United States Marine Corps, completing boot camp that same year. He scored exceptionally high on the entrance exam, which gave him the opportunity to choose aviation mechanic as his specialty. His five years of service took him across the globe - Hawaii, North Carolina, Arizona, Singapore, Jordan, Djibouti, Seychelles, Afghanistan, and more. His dedication and strength earned him the rank of Sergeant upon his honorable discharge in 2005.
After his military service, Marshall pursued higher education, earning a Bachelor's degree in Business from California State University, East Bay. He then went on to hold managerial roles at Guarda and FedEx Office.
In 2017, Marshall began a rewarding career in public service with the County of Santa Clara. As a Veteran Services Representative, he supported fellow veterans in securing benefits. Later, as an Employment Counselor, he assisted homeless adults in finding employment. Most recently, he served as a Management Analyst for Public Health. His work was driven by compassion and a desire to make a difference in the lives of those around him.
In 2018, Marshall married Ximena in a beautiful ceremony in Aptos, California. Their journey took them from Hayward to San Jose, where they made a warm and welcoming home - filled with love, good food, and the joyful presence of their beloved dog, Coco, who was always by Marshall's side.
Marshall was an incredible cook and host. Whether it was a family gathering, holiday celebration, or casual get-together, he welcomed everyone with open arms - bringing loved ones together to share in the joy of food, tradition, and camaraderie.
Beyond the kitchen, he found peace and joy in nature, especially in fishing and hunting.
His generosity and love for others were evident in everything he did. His home was always a place where people felt valued, cared for, and loved. He brought light and warmth to the lives of all who were lucky enough to know him.
Marshall passed away on March 31, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer. As we remember Marshall, we celebrate the love he gave, the meals he made, and his adventures in the outdoor. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who were blessed to share in his life.
He is survived by his wife, Ximena, and his parents, Zheng Wei Qiu and Yi Jing Wang.
Rest in peace, Marshall. You will be missed, but your legacy of love, laughter, adventure, and friendship will continue to inspire us always.
