Dr. Christen Mark Adams' Obituary
Christen, born November 10, 1983, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly early on April 17, 2014 during a break in his shift at UW Medical Center. He leaves behind his wife, Dr. Taralee Adams, son Pierce William (age 3), and Morgan, his second son, who is expected to arrive in July.He is also survived by his loving mother Kim, aunts Linda Simon and Lynette Simon-Moret, uncle Kenneth Simon, and cousins Ian Moret, Justin Moret, and Maurice Moret. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Roy H. Simon and Agnes Grace Simon, his father-in-law Peter Kemp, and his father, Mark Adams. Christen’s personality shines through in the names of the two cats he also leaves behind, Robocop and Widget. From a young age, Christen was focused on building the life he wanted to have for himself and his family. He determined that he wanted to be a doctor while still attending Terra Nova High School (class of ‘02) in Pacifica, CA, then stayed focused and diligent in his studies along a journey that took him from UC Santa Barbara (B.S. ’06) and UC San Francisco (M.D. ’10) to his residency as an anesthesiologist at the University of Washington. He was proud and relieved to be counting down to the end of this long educational career, which was about to culminate with his graduation from UW this June. He had seen his original desire to be a doctor through to the end and would have begun work at Highline Medical Center in Burien, WA this August while also taking on a teaching role at UW.Christen was quiet and self-critical, but these serious traits belied the fact that he was genuinely accepting of others and never judgmental. He took the time daily to reflect with Taralee on the best parts of each day’s events and their favorite pastime was simply to dream about the future. For instance, Christen wondered how Taralee could arrange for Kobe Bryant of his beloved Lakers to attend one of his birthday parties. He also looked forward to having his “mancave” one day and enjoyed frequent reconnaissance missions to Best Buy with Pierce to scope out the TV, sound system, and PlayStation consoles that might occupy that space. No matter what, the video library would include Robocop, which was required viewing for anyone getting to know Christen. That included Taralee when they first met in their first quarter at UCSB in Chemistry 1A at UC Santa Barbara. They quickly became inseparable best friends bonding over study sessions as they both pursued medical degrees, their favorite TV shows, and their love of food (breakfast burritos were a favorite, as were his mom’s nachos, and any surf-and-turf entrée, anywhere). They were married on December 28, 2008 and welcomed Pierce into the world on April 20, 2011. Friends and family are invited to celebrate the life of this devoted father, treasured son, loving husband, doctor, and avid gamer on two occasions:Tuesday, April 22 at 1 p.m. at the Mountaineers Program Center, 7700 Sand Point Way NE in Seattle. & Saturday, April 26 at 3:30 p.m. at Skylawn Funeral Home, Hwy 92 at Skyline Boulevard in San MateoThough Christen left this world too soon, his family will be comforted by memories of his trip to see The Lego Movie in early celebration of Pierce’s 3rd birthday and by his role as ticklee during their reading of The Tickle Monster on the evening before his passing. To make donations without fees please call or visit Bank of America to donate to:Taralee Adams: Account opened in California Branch Zip Code 95113 Account Number 000800004024 See more at: http://www.youcaring.com/other/providing-for-the-family-of-christen-mark-adams/167296#sthash.Mq47ooJy.dpuf
