Marjorie W. Levie's Obituary
Marjorie Levie died peacefully at the age of 92 on February 10th 2017. She was born Marjorie Bemis on January 21st, 1925 in Salt Lake City Utah. She grew up in a small home in Salt Lake City with her parents and three siblings. She loved playing cards with her sisters and would later enjoy playing craps in Tahoe, and always gave her winnings to her grandchildren. She was very close to her brother and sisters, and family was always her number one priority. In 1942 a young handyman named Carl Levie came over to fix a water problem in her house. He hurt his finger, while working and she not only tended to his wound but realized she would never want to leave Carl’s side. Carl and Marjorie were only 17 and too young to be married in Salt Lake City, so they drove to the state of Wyoming and were married on Valentine’s Day February 14th 1942.The couple moved to San Francisco and Carl was drafted and off to fight in WWII. Needing to support herself and her newborn daughter, Marjorie took a job helping to make parts for airplanes in San Francisco and was part of the group of women known as “Rosie the Riveters”. Working for the Government also gave Marjorie an opportunity to purchase a house in San Francisco which she did by spending the family’s entire savings without the permission of her husband Carl. Ironically, this bold move would eventually lead to Carl and Marjorie’s successful adventure in real estate along the Peninsula. When Carl returned from the war in 1952, Marjorie packed up the family and moved to Carson St. in Redwood City. Although she swore she would never play that stupid game with the little white ball, Marjorie became an avid golfer and enjoyed traveling with family and friends to play golf. She loved the San Francisco Giants and came to every one of her grandson’s baseball games. Marjorie was always willing to help anyone as long as they were willing to help themselves. She is survived by her daughter Cynthia, son Jim, Grandchildren Nick, Gina, and Alison, and great grandchildren Chuck and Sierra. Services for Marjorie will be held at Skylawn Memorial Park in San Mateo on Saturday, Feb. 25th11am. Viewing is available at 10:30am. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations by mail to Pathways Home Health and Hospice, 585N. Mary Ave., Sunnyvale, CA 94085 or online at www.pathwayshealth.org.
