Marjorie Erickson Jama McConn's Obituary
Marjorie Erickson Jama McConn lifted her eyes to the hills on November 4, 2017 at the young age of 94.She was born in Quincy, Oregon, to Lydia and Matt Erickson. Following graduation from Clatskanie High School in 1941, she moved to Portland, where she met Alexander Jama at a USO dance and they married on July 27, 1946. The newlyweds moved to California and built their first home in Millbrae where their daughters, Susan, Kathy and Joan were born. During this time, Marjorie became a founding member of Calvary Lutheran Church which she remained active with her entire life. In 1960, the family moved to Capuchino Drive and welcomed their fourth daughter, Larissa. While being a busy mother Marjorie still found time to enjoy her pastimes of fishing, travel and gardening, as well as being a Girl Scout Troup leader for 16 years and a very active member of her church and PTA.In 1979, she married Neil McConn and moved to Nevada City, CA, becoming active in Peace Lutheran Church. They spent their summers fishing and the winters traveling. Following Neil’s passing in 1991, she returned to the Bay Area and resided in Half Moon Bay. Marjorie became a docent at Fitzgerald Marine Reserve, delivered Meals on Wheels with her partner Richard Hock for Coastside Seniors, and taught the members of her newest church Coastside Lutheran how to make Chrismons for their Christmas Tree.Marjorie lived a full and wonderful life in which she dedicated herself to her family, her church and her community. She will not only be remembered for her love and selflessness, but also her delicious apple pies.She will be forever missed by her daughters, Susan Ballard (Jim) of Hemet, Kathy Valentine (Sonny) of Oakland, Joan Jama of Pescadero, and Larissa Jama of New Orleans. Her grandchildren Sean Ballard, Alex Ballard (Candi) and Justin, Corina, Ashley and Kristen Outten, and six great grandchildren.A celebration of life will take place on Thursday, November 9 at Skylawn Memorial Park. Visitation from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00, Services at 11:00 a.m. There will be a reception held at the Vista Room from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.Mother would be honored with a remembrance of flowers or a donation to Coastside Lutheran Church.
