Marilyn Mandel Roseman's Obituary
Marilyn Mandel Roseman died peacefully in her home surrounded by family and her amazing caregiver, Heleine on November 20, 2019. She joins her beloved husband, Norman, in the world to come.Marilyn was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, attended Brooklyn College, where she received her Masters in American History. She taught social studies at Oceanside Junior High for many years. When Norman created Soap Opera Digest, she became is Circulation Editor. Later, when the family acquired the Scarsdale Answering Service, she managed that business. Later, she assisted Norman with his consulting business.Marilyn met Norman, the love of her life, at a dude ranch in upstate NY. They raised their two offspring, Scott and Jayne, in Forrest Hills, Bellmore, and Rockville Centre on Long Island, NY. After both kids moved to California in the late 70’s, they moved out to California to enjoy the sunshine and to be closer to their kids. Marilyn enjoyed getting to be with her family and loved having Scott’s boys spend weekends over at her home.Beyond her careers, Marilyn was an avid volunteer, especially in synagogue life, where she was very active and served a term as Sisterhood President. At the age of 50, she became a Bat Mitzvah. She also sang in the temple choir, both in NY and in CA. Oh yes, she loved to sing! And play the piano. And perform in musicals.She loved theatre, symphony, going to museums, playing bridge, swimming, and reading. And she loved to travel and see the world.She is survived by her son, Scott Roseman, daughter, Jayne Roseman, daughters-in-law, Jasmine Berke and Melanie Hofmann, grandchildren, Naomi, Ishtar, Ryan, Kyle and Emily and six great-grandchildren, Baer, Roxanne, Rylie, Farrah, Teigan, and Harvey.Marilyn cared deeply about making the world a better place and we are all blessed that in her 92 years of life, she did just that.In lieu of flowers, please send donations to either the JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation), or to the URJ (Union for Reform Judaism) summer camps.
