Marilyn June Markwith's Obituary
Beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother and great grandmother, Marilyn passed away peacefully on April 19 at the age of 93 after a battle with kidney disease.
Marilyn is survived by her sons, Mike and Gary and their wives, Julie and Roselyn, her six grandchildren—Shannon Connolly Stone (Charles), Eric Connolly (Collette), Gregory Markwith (Caitlin), Steven Markwith (Amanda), Nicholas and Katelyn Markwith, and nine grandchildren. She is pre-deceased by her husband, Bill, and her daughter, Linda.
Marilyn was born in Los Angeles and graduated from Pomona High School, where she was an outstanding athlete. She also participated in Glee Club and Acapella Choir.
She grew up with humble beginnings but it never stopped her from always having a positive attitude about life, a deep love for her family and that wonderful smile.
Soon after WWII, Marilyn married Bill and they were married for 62 years. In 1951, they moved from Southern California to Redwood City. She babysat every one of her grandchildren, as well
as hundreds of other children, whom she treated as family. They all called her grandma. She was grandma Marilyn to so many lucky children.
Marilyn was an avid bowler, having bowled at Woodside Bowl, Mel’s Bowl and Bel-Mateo Bowl until she was in her 80’s. She loved traveling, especially the Tahoe/Truckee area and even kayaked at Donner Lake with her sons into her 80’s as well. She stayed in good physical shape and prided herself in touching her toes. Marilyn also enjoyed gardening, manning her hummingbird feeders and reading romance novels.
She was a member of First Christian Church and enjoyed participating in the Women’s Circle.
Marilyn was also a huge Giants, Warriors and 49ers fan, and loved it when one of the family members would come over to watch a game with her.
There will be a private funeral. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations be made to Kaiser Permanente Hospice Services, 1150 Veterans Blvd., Redwood City, CA 94063.
