Marilyn L Kern's Obituary
Born in Wausau, Wisconsin in 1936, Marilyn L. Kern was the daughter of Clarence and Beulah Piehl. She was the loving wife of George Kern and mother to Grant Lee Kern and Greta Lynn Kern. She was grandmother to Garrett Lee. She is also survived by two sisters, Karen and Judi and one brother, Barry. Lynn was 80 years old when she passed away on May 20th. ,Lynn grew up in Wisconsin, and after high school. attended The University of Wisconsin at Stevens Point for three years. During the summer between her third and fourth year of college, Lynn met George while working a summer job in northern Wisconsin. George and Lynn would often joke that their almost 60 year marriage began as a summer romance that was never going to last. Lynn and George were married on the 28 of December in 1957 in Wausau, Wisconsin. Lynn skipped a year of college to honeymoon and relocate to George’s home state of California. Settling in San Francisco, CA, Lynn received her BA and teaching credential from San Francisco State University. Lynn and George purchased their first home and moved from San Francisco to Pacifica. Lynn’s first teaching job was in a kindergarten at Linda Mar Elementary School in Pacifica. On December 9, 1968, Lynn, George, Greta and Grant moved to Foster City to raise their family.Lynn was a woman who loved people, beginning with her family. Every holiday was spent hosting the family, enjoying laughter and stories of the past and present. She also thoroughly enjoyed being with different groups of friends, spending time in books clubs and card groups. She was an avid reader, loved sewing and crafting, and took great pride in making her home a welcoming, comfortable place. Another of Lynn’s passions was travel. She and George enjoyed many land and sea cruises in their years of retirement.Lynn had a quiet strength and a devout belief in her Presbyterian Church. She was a longtime attendee of the Burlingame Presbyterian Church. A Celebration of Life will be held at the San Mateo Elk’s Club on June 23rd at 11:00.
